ravelympics 2010 has come and gone. it was a quick 14 days. i am happy to report that i met all my goals, and then some! i earned 38 medals - 1 for WIPs dancing (the monkey), 1 for skelegurumi (the bunny) and 12 a piece for junior olympics, hat halfpipe and charity curling. in a way, i wish we could have entered our projects into 1 event - it got pretty confusing, posting 12 pictures into 3 events (actually 4, since i also posted on my team's thread)!! it would have made my work (and flickr) much easier!
in short, here are 9 preemie caps, knit from the same skein of yarn. i could have squeezed out a tenth, but would have needed a tiny bit more yarn to add to it...

the colorwork cap
the lots of eyelet cap
and lastly (and my real waterloo) the feather and fan...
i had a lot of fun knitting these tiny caps. i can't wait to take them up the geisinger. i can only imagine the tiny heads these caps may cradle someday. the doctors and nurses in the NICU took good care of the kiddos, and it feels good to give back.
as promised, i finished a WIP, petunia's sock monkey. it was painless as all he needed was an arm and a face...
and a surprise bunny! knit with blue sky alpaca cotton, it was a quick and mostly easy knit. i say mostly easy becos i goofed up the head - not the head itself, but sewing it on. sewing is not my forte. but i knit it in 3 days. thank you snowstorm for giving me a headstart!
no worries, monkey ears will get his own bunny soon. i started on his last night and so far all i have is blue bunny butt.
the pattern also called for poly pellets, to weigh the bottom, feet and hands down. as i didn't have any PP, i couldn't add them. it's okay. i'd have to make little bags for the pellets (which is optional in the pattern but i would have to becos i think my knit was actually pretty loose and a stray pellet could be dangerous to a kiddo).
now that the ravelympics are over, i'm free to continue working on my swirl shawl, and i did get a couple inches knit on belinda. i also have baby sock monkey to complete (and that should be a painless knit as well). but i'm also itching to cast on a log cabin in lion brand cotton-ease. i got enough yarn to knit the kiddos each a blanket. so we'll see. i should actually try to complete swirly or belinda before i try something else!
the kiddos had their 6 month checkup recently (never mind they'll be 7 months next week!) and are growing like weeds. fredster now rolls over and petunia practically scoots on her belly. they've been fussy for the past few days - i think the weekend and the docs threw their schedule off a bit. we got an indoor fence for the kiddos so now they can roll around without bumping into furniture or banging their heads on the wood floor!
it's doctor seuss week at the boy's school, so each day he has to do or dress a certain way according to whatever story they read. yesterday was hat day, and today was green day (he won a pencil for wearing the most green). tomorrow is wacky dressing day, so he has to wear his clothes inside out or backwards (how about both?) this week reminds me of spirit week when i was in high school, where we wore or did something for class spirit. in junior high it was just one week (usually in the winter) but later it changed to a spirit day a month, which i thought was more fun - it gave us something to look forward to throughout the year. we only one the spirit banner once, our junior year (i think).
back to seuss...what's your favorite book? i think mine is the lorax, "i speak for the trees". theodor geisel was so ahead of his time with preserving the earth. i also love "how the grinch stole christmas" (who doesn't?) hubby's favorite book is "the book about me" and it was the first dr. seuss book the boy ever got. and i just learned this from wikipedia...geisel was a practicing lutheran. how cool is that!
