B*O*O*T*S - BOOTS

a department store (sic) in town is going out of business at the end of the week, so mom took me and the boy this morning so i could find some bargains (70% off - woohoo!) got hubby xmas presents for the next 2 years (sweaters, dress shirts, ties, socks, a belt) and i got me some kickin' BOOTS. 3 PAIRS. (and a pair of clarks slides). one pair are brown with shearling (utility blizzard boots), another pair of black pebble leather flat boots (dressy yet dependable) and the piece de resistance, the low-heeled microfiber leather boot (who knew hush puppies could be sexy?) i wore them to the playground and to library (and am still wearing them now) and dang, are they comfy. now, i don't know about wearing them whilst mall crawling or an all day trek in philly, but for dress-up for church (or anywhere for that matter) they are rockin'. it's a low heel, but dang if they don't make me feel 6 feet tall and a sex object. my feet even look small in them (and my feet, with my left foot having the stupid fat pad over my instep and pushing me to a 7W). i wish i had a short kilt and knit leggings, so i could rock them out even more. dang, do i like these boots.

shoes must be the theme this week. i got a pair of ballet flats at target on sunday. finally found a pair that don't look ugly or slutty. black, with a tiny shoestring bow on the toe. $12. can't beat that. almost got a pair of fake tan birk clogs too but put them back (i was feeling particularly cheap, and really, i want a pair of REAL birks.) also got the boy a pair of osh kosh sneaks for $10 at target, and a pair of brown nubucks and red tie loafers for **$2 a piece** at the store today. the nubucks will look cool next year. the red shoes, i got just cos they were cute as can be. they may be girl shoes for all i know. they were red with red and white striped laces, and HARD AS THE DICKENS - THESE WERE SHOES LIKE I WORE WHEN I WAS A KID WHICH WAS IN THE 70s. seriously, they look like they're made of leather cardboard, the stuff that blisters are made of. these shoes were OLD. but for 2 bucks, you can't beat that.

i earned green karma points sunday. i left target and weggies with 2 canvas bags A PIECE. usually i leave with about a dozen plastic bags of junk. NO PLASTIC BAGS AT ALL (except for the one that my cow creamer was wrapped in, and i forgive that). the clerks at target and b&n were confused when i said i wanted to use my own bags, but they were great about it and thought it was a good idea. it was the least amount of stuff i bought on a penn state trip. target had a lot of bulky things - 2 boxes of shoes, a set of sheets, a game. weggies was mostly fruit and organics. i'm so proud of me.

i also got a new knitting bag. rather A ROLLING TOTE. i got the last knitting tote at jo-ann fabrics, purple, with lots of pockets. i got it for $25, half off. not too shabby. the old bag will hold needles i don't use anymore, loose gadgets i don't use regularly, and at some point, knitting magazines when my end table runs out of room. i feel incredibly lazy for getting a rolling tote, but really, i haul so much junk, the other bag was just awkward and heavy and i swear half of my bruises are from the metal frame when i carry it. i don't even carry my yarn or projects in it - it's all just my gadgets and books and project folders. i think i carry too much knitting shit, but i'm always afraid that i might need something (and it is mighty nice to have 5 kinds of tapestry needles and carrying my harmony needles, DPNs and straights - never know when they might come in handy for someone). talk about a die hard knitter.

not so die hard, tho, that i didn't go to knitting last night. i was achy from walking all day sunday and i felt like someone beat the shit out of me with a baseball bat. i seriously thought i had the flu so i skipped it. my teacher wasn't going to be there anyway, so i figger'd i was entitled to take at least one class off. just wasn't in the mood to help anyone knit if they needed it (i'm so mean).

speaking of mean, my redneck roots must be showing. when i was at weggies, there were a ton of college students there (classes start back this week). now, i consider weggies to be one of those places you shop at once in a while, not all the time, becos i think their stuff is expensive. the only stuff i get there are organic and international products that i can't get at weis or walmart, my black and white cookies and i like their bagels. i rarely get meat there (i have an hour and a half drive home, not too practical) and sometimes i get general groceries like canned goods if i really need them or if i'm not going on my regular grocery trip that week. but these kids were buying tp, fruit (out of season berries? are you kidding me?) and cases of sodas and waters. stuff that i usually get at walmart. i didn't get to shop weggies till i was out of college and only started shopping there in the past 2 years. it's the place where i only go every 3 or 4 months or so. if i shopped there all the time, i'd blow my grocery budget in, oh, say, 5 minutes. so yes, my redneck roots are showing in that i'm a cheap bastard, and am amazed at how kids a generation younger than me are shopping there regularly.

i think that's about it. i started working on cousin t's sampler afghan, i have 3 squares done, i'm working on the cloverleaf square, and i have about a dozen squares to go (i'm being optimistic for a 16 square afghan, i'll be lucky if it's 12) for it to be finished. hopefully i can finish it before may (when her shower is). my wrists and shoulders don't hurt as bad. taking a break has been good.
