recently a town not far from me announced that they were going to collect all the abandoned grocery carts and haul them to the metal scrap yard and get money for them. apparently people would steal the carts and leave them all over parts of town, and the city's garbage trucks were sick of returning the carts back to the stores. the one grocery store they interviewed said that they had bought several of the double decker (short) carts and none of them were left at the store. also, they didn't have enough man power to roam the city and retrieve their carts.
first of all, it's a crime to steal ANYTHING from a store, even a grocery cart.
secondly, now i know what happened to all the shorty carts that my grocery store used to have. i love using the short cart becos it keeps me from over buying on groceries. i also think they're easier to maneuver and reach things (i'm short and i'm forever diving to the bottom of the cart to reach a tiny can or something). it has been increasingly more difficult to find a little cart at the store and it pisses me off. i will bet you a donut that half of those carts are at welfare acres behind the store.
if they want to steal a cart, steal the stupid "truck" kiddie carts. i hate those things. it's like driving a semi through the store. i can't steer the stupid things and they're even deeper than a regular cart. i finally told the boy that he's too old to ride in the "truck" carts. a lie, but it gets me off the hook.
