i am an absolute sucker for yarn. you can't let me near a LYS without me fondling and nuzzling yarn. i supposed there are worse addictions, but at least yarn is useful.
it is so hard to pin down a favorite yarn. i have favorite yarns for different projects. let's break it down, shall we?
this is a cake of cherie anne designs thick handspun yarn. it is a yummy bulky weight. i love this yarn becos it still has a coating of lanolin on it. this is strictly souvenir yarn. i bought it KDO and i have no idear what to use it for. someday, the perfect project will show up.
i am a huge fan of paton's wool for felting. it is relatively inexpensive and makes beautiful fabric for felting. i have made many purses and the french press slippers with paton's.
i use koigu for everything from socks to fingerless gloves. it's a rich yarn but i love the colors. and it's fabulous to work with.
i hate to admit that i am a bit of a yarn snob. i do prefer natural fibers like wool and other animal fibers. the yarn has a bit of "give" that is gentle on my wrists.
not all acrylic yarn is crap tho. i like lion brand products becos they are the best of both worlds - the give of a wool yet the wear of an acrylic. the yarn i used for the kiddos toys was acrylic, and i was surprised at how easy it was to use!
i'm always on the look out for new fibers. there are many new eco fibers on the market now. it amazes me how yarn fiber can be derived from corn, milk, bamboo and even shellfish! i made a pair of socks from SWTC Tofutsies yarn. a bit splitty and not really my favorite, but it was fun to tell people that i was wearing socks made from tofu!
