bones of contention

i'm annoyed at hgtv and tnt for taking off/limiting two of my favorite shows. starting this week it looks like knitty gritty will air only once a week instead of 3 times a week . tnt took judging amy off the air entirely and instead started airing las vegas. i know it's stupid to bitch about, but i love me my gritty, and amy was always there every day, like comfort food. hopefully another channel like court tv or lifetime or we pick it up and start rerunning it. my luck, oxygen (which i don't get) will pick it up.

i heard that there will be a new knitting show on pbs called knit and crochet today. i hope my local pbs stations pick it up (since gritty won't be airing as often and rumor has it won't have new episodes.) i won't hold my breath tho - my local stations never picked up real simple tv like i hoped they would.

i finished the first moc croc sock last night. that had to be one of the fastest knit socks i ever did. it had a simple pattern repeat and since the pattern ribs that might be the reason why (i hate ribbing socks. K1P1 is such a pain in the ass for me.). i'm not sure about the pattern's heel turn instructions - they ask for Sl1 K or P(whatever stitches), then SSK/P2tog and **NO K1/P1** as i'm accustomed to with my other patterns. the heel looks kinda short and shrunken up. i looked on knitpicks website (where i downloaded the pattern) for any errors and of course THAT part of the site was down. when i tried the sock on the heel felt fine, so i hope they know what they're talking about. i'll have to wait 2 weeks to ask my knitting teacher whether or not this is a legit heel turn.

oh, and of course, after i'm done with the sock I FIND THE SLIPPED STITCH THAT I WAS MISSING. apparently what i thought was a slipped stitch in the gusset WASN'T. i tried to fix it as best as i could, i laddered the stitch up to the beginning of the gusset, and wound up snipping it and tying it off. fortunately the knot is at the ankle and won't be felt on the foot or anything, but the whole thing just annoyed the crap out of me. i make the perfect sock, and wind up with a huge mistake on it. fortunately the run is at an eyelet spot so the hole just looks a little bigger than the others. now i have to start sock 2.

MMiL's shawl is about 2 feet long. i realized that i'm going to have to scrimp on the multicolored mohair since i have only one ball left and i have another 3 feet to knit. for some reason i have a ton of the brown mohair left, 1 ball of the patons and 2 of the lionbrand. so much for the fibbonaci method. i'll have to keep an eye on the randomness. shawl looks cool tho.

i also realized that one of the books i got last week is one that i already own. i started reading it this morning and after thinking, gee, this story sounds familiar, checked my books and saw that i already had a copy. i'll just donate it to my church's library, it was a pretty good book anyway.

i told hubby about my friend's blog and asked him whether or not i should contact him. hubby thought maybe it wasn't a good idea to email him since we'd ended on bad terms during a seemly bad time that maybe i'd remind him of that time and open an old wound. also, as hubby had no problem with me contact my friend, my friend's SO might have a problem with me contacting him. hubby also asked why did i want to contact him - just to apologize? make myself feel better? yeah, true on both accounts. so no, i won't contact him. and that's the name of that tune.

guess that's it. this is such a boring labor day.

  1. You are right...there is a new knitting & crochet show coming up on PBS. It should start to air some time in the next week or two. Check out your local PBS web site to see if they carry it and if they don't (bad PBS station) go to www.knitandcrochettoday.com and click on the link to try to get it in your area. Nice blog.
