a surplus food warehouse recently opened in my town and i finally got to grace its presence yesterday. hubby went a few times and liked it - of course, becos he brought crap home to eat - hot pockets, crappy cookies, coffee soda, chips. so yesterday i went to pick up cookies that the boy liked, and more damn hot pockets. i came home with a 3 pound bag of chicken tenders , german baloney, cheese popcorn with WAY too much salt on it (which is why it's prolly at the store) and 2 boxes of organic brown rice cereal, amongst other things. if you don't mind buying bashed in cans, smashed boxes, and missing sets, then this store is for you! they sell the good canned tomatoes that i like...except the cans are dented, and i have a big problem with that. so much so that i check cans at my regular store for dents, and then get pissed when i come home and find a dent in a can becos the clerk was sloppy packing my bags. i bought a box of antiviral kleenex for 75 cents, and could've gotten more boxes if i could deal with one end being smashed in. one whole section was full of juice boxes and single servings of applesauce, 10 for a dollar. some things have already expired. i really checked my stuff to make sure the date was okay (one pack of cookies expired in december, but i figured they were so full of crappy chemicals they'd be safe for another 6 months.). i got lunch meat (against better judgement, i suppose) that was packaged in ZYPLOC baggies. i pray that whoever packaged the meat had the sense to wear gloves and a face mask. some of the staff are developmentally limited. i found this out when i was walking down an aisle and could hear a guy talking behind me. i didn't know if he was talking to me or on a phone or what so i did a casual glance over the shoulder to see who it was and here it was this weird guy carrying a box. i quickly turned up an aisle and headed for the checkout. i was DONE! when i told hubby about him he said he remembered seeing him there and thought he worked there.
most of the shoppers there were either old or poor. when i was checking out i thought i saw one of my old clients (someone who gave me the willies when i worked with him). it's a good place to go to save money, as long as you're okay with what's there. i will go back to this store becos i can get milk and other things a lot cheaper than at my regular store, plus it's a lot closer.
hence the title of this post. i could have also called it "not that there's anything wrong with that either..."
i started another pair of magic loop socks, this time in grey that i planned to knit granny last year but just didn't do. it took me FOREVER to do the cast on - i must have tried it 5 times last night at knitting, and wound up knitting them together, so i just ripped them out and started them again last night, and continued screwing up. i started again and with a few false starts now have my toe done so i can start the foot. the bad news is that I LOST MY ORIGINAL PATTERN that i got from my teacher. i still have the mini sock pattern but it's not the same, so i wound up googling magic loop toe up socks and found a decent pattern. all the magic loop patterns out there, and the majority are top down socks. WHAT'S THE POINT? geez. so i'm off to a good start now.
