celtic fling

on saturday hubby and i went to celtic fling at the renaissance fair. what a great time. we saw 5 bands (and heard 2 others in passing), hubby got beer, and i got shirts for the boy. usually we eat good there, but i wasn't feeling well, and all i could muster was a pretzel and a fruit bowl.

we heard albannach, an awesome drum and pipe band from scotland. we saw them 2 years ago and loved them, and they didn't disappoint once. saw enter the haggis, this great band from toronto. hubby bought their cd and i think more stuff from their online merch store. caught a snatch of barleyjuice (sound kinda like the pogues). watched most of scythian. saw a bit of coyote run when we first got there. i think i heard bits from screaming orphans (cool girl celtic band). heard another cool pipe and garage sound band that i have no idear what their name was but they were awesome. where else can you spend $25 and hear so many great bands? cheap!!

the other thing we love to do there is watch the freak show er costumes people where to these festivals. lots of guys in tartan kilts wearing rude t-shirts. girls wearing corsets with their tits heaved up so high i wonder how they can see over them. i saw one guy dressed like a monk and another dressed like a pope. one guy was dressed like the black knight from the holy grail. mind you, it was almost 90 degrees and humid that day - how do people deal with wearing all those layers? especially the knight? lots of pirates. and their whores er wenches too. the place is definitely a LARPer scene. i can only imagine how much they spend on their clothes.

i'm not sure i'd go again to that festival, altho if we want to hear these bands again we'd have no choice. we went to scottish fling a few year ago, and to PRF the year before that with my folks. i told hubby that maybe next year we could try going to oktoberfest. that's gotta be fun.
