my knitting heros - knitcroblo week day 3

check out my favorite knitting blogs.  those crafters are my heros.  where to start?

the first knitter whose blog i started following regularly was stephanie pearl-mcphee, whom the world knows as the yarn harlot.  she is, hands down, probably the queen of all things knitterly.  i am in constant awe of how she juggles her projects and how she manages to complete them so quickly.  socks grow on her needles on a nearly daily basis.  she knocks out sweaters, whether they are lace or fair isle, in no time at all.  her enthusiasm for new knits has enabled me to become addicted to the now famous french press felted slipper, and i tried my hand at lace knitting with the swirl shawl, which she blogged about last fall.  i reread her books quite frequently, always finding something new that i didn't think about or notice before.

vickie howell is one of the busiest ladies in the craft world.  she knits!  she crochets!  she sews!  she always posts a new project a week.  from paints to glitter and glue, to oil cloth to recycled materials, she is a craft genius.  in addition to being a crafty girl, she is also an author, a tv show host (for knitty gritty and stylicious), a columnist (previously in kiwi magazine, now for PBS kids online), a designer of yarny yumminess with SWTC, and best of all, a wife and mom.  i don't know how she does it, but she is an inspiration to me.

i love the mason dixon ladies!  kay and ann blog back and forth, sharing patterns, stories, experiences.  i have made a number of their projects, most recently their log cabin blanket for the kiddos.  i have their belinda on needles.  i am so coveting their per orla dishcloth.  they just rock.

melynda of french press knits is a recent discovery thanks to the yarn harlot.  i absolutely covet her french press knits felted slippers.  her work is original and so simple.  felted baby bootie slippers?  me likey!

i discovered roxanne of the 60/40 through a blogging group on ravelry.  she not only blogs about crafting, but about things that inspire her.  i love her posts, always complete with several pictures of delightful objects.  she blogs about her home (she recently moved cross country and talks about how she is making her new house a home), but my favorite posts are her sunday flea market posts, where she shows off her recent flea market purchases.  this blog always makes me smile.

knitting kris is actually a girl i went to school with.  i never knew she could knit until i found her on ravelry.  it's so neat knowing that someone else from WSHS knits too!  her projects range from socks to shawls to hats to sweaters.  she gifts many of her finished projects - her recipients are so lucky!  i look forward to reading about her projects, and they give me inspiration too.

some of my knitting heros have no blogs.  the ladies at my monday night knitting group always inspire me.  a few ladies are making socks, which inspired me to pick up the DPNs and cast anew.  one lady knit a EZ sweater - she has more patience than i do!  and i dare not forget my knitting teacher.  one of the first patterns i knit from her was for knitted teddy bears - she makes them for a local hospital for the labor and delivery department.  a few years ago she made a simple sweater shrug/vest.  while i haven't had the chance to knit it, many others have, and someday, i will too.  and she is so patient.  bless her for that.
