socks and the city

i finally finished a pair of socks.  it only took me 2 years to do it.  and no, baby socks don't count.

the yarn harlot's basic sock recipe, knit with fortissima socka in a cool navy with a varigated thread running through it.  i completed the sock while on vacay with hubby in cooperstown.  with a 4 hour drive to and from, and with hour drives to and from various eateries, i got a lot accomplished.

can't remember if i mentioned that i seemed to have this sock block.  i hadn't knitted a sock since losing ani.  tried to knit magic loop socks but for some reason i just couldn't.  so i pulled out the old DPNs and pounded away.

i knit the first sock from memory, hence why the heel and heel turn is goofy.  but honestly, not a bad showing considering i hadn't knit adult socks on DPNs in over 2 and a half years!

i am going to start a new pair in a funky bright varigated DK by cascade yarns, then i'll finally make nany her xmas 2008 socks in a deep purplish blue.  i'd give her this pair, but the first sock was a bit mangled, plus darn it, i like this pair!

as promised, freddy's block poppin blanket:

blocking blankey.  and here's an extreme close up:

i should call this blanket fruit loops for fruity pebbles.  i love the vibrant colors.  knit with new york marble (the body of the blanket, a chunky boucle with some thicker bobble slubs throughout) and crystal palace popcorn as the poppin yarn.  these bobbles were way smaller than the original poppin yarn, not easy to work with, plus it was very thin so i had to carry the marble yarn along with the poppin yarn.

these patterns are so easy.  knocked these blankets out in no time.  and the funny thing is, i'm the only one on ravelry who has knitted these poppin blankets.
