3KCBWDAY7 - crafting balance

Are you a knitter or a crocheter, or are you a bit of both? If you are monogamous in your yarn-based crafting, is it because you do not enjoy the other craft or have you simply never given yourself the push to learn it? Is it because the items that you best enjoy crafting are more suited to the needles or the hook? Do you plan on ever trying to take up and fully learn the other craft? If you are equally comfortable knitting as you are crocheting, how do you balance both crafts? Do you always have projects of each on the go, or do you go through periods of favouring one over the other? How did you come to learn and love your craft(s)?

i consider myself bicraftual (a funny word, that is!)  to wit:

i'm a knitter by and large.  i'm not afraid to KIP, even in a foreign country.

when i go on vacation, i seek out yarn shops.

other people bring home snow globes from vacation - i bring home yarn.

but...every once in a while, i step into the dark side and crochet.

i only added a couple of rows to my scrubby since taking this picture...

then there's the cross stitching (i have eskimimitheandipants and mooncalf to thank for that).  i find that i cross stitch when i'm bored with knitting.

i learned to spin on a drop spindle last fall but haven't had a spare minute to practice (actually, i'm waiting to get a heavier spindle when i go to MDS&W in a few weeks).  someday i want to get a real spinning wheel.

some of my favorite bloggers (the yarn harlot and melynda from french press knits among them) are weaving on looms and creating the most beautiful scarves and wraps.  i'm resisting this trend, but maybe someday...

this is just the fiber arts i love.  i also enjoy making stitch markers for my knitting:

i'm learning how to sew!  i made a few project bags and tote bags for my kids.  someday i'll be brave enough to sew something to wear!

i'm no craft snob - all forms of yarn art has its merits.  i actually pity those who snub fiber arts other than their own.  i love mixing knitting and crochet together.  i can't wait to make a cross stitched appliqué for my knitting.  and hopefully some day i can knit with my very own handspun yarn.

i'll always be a knitter first and foremost...but it's fun to dabble with a hook or sewing needle sometimes!

  1. I LOVE your stitch markers....
I too frequent yarn shops all over the world - I can't imagine why I wouldn't? Mr Myrtle knows to look out for them too and is prepared to lose me for an hour when we find one :)
I made a trip home to NZ last year - you can imagine what came home with me to the UK.... piles of yarn!

  2. I like to bring home yarn from my vacations, too. What better souvenir could there be?
