3KCBWDAY1 - color lovers

Colour is one of our greatest expressions of ourselves when we choose to knit or crochet, so how do you choose what colours you buy and crochet or knit with. Have a look through your stash and see if there is a predominance of one colour. Do the same with your finished projects - do they match? Do you love a rainbow of bright hues, or more subdued tones. How much attention do you pay to the original colour that a garment is knit in when you see a pattern? Tell readers about your love or confusion over color.

this photo is a few years old, but it gives a good idea which color pallet i fancy:

i have tons of blues.  i own so much that i divided my blue stash into blues and blue greens.  i have two bags of purples and two of green (solids and tweeds/varigateds).  my reds expanded into two bags; orange currently has its own bag.  brown and black share a bag, and yellow and white share a bag.

strangely, i have few skeins of pink yarn.  what pink i have is in the red bag.  i have a tiny stash of black yarn.  i think i have half a skein of black cashmere, a skein of black patons, and a hank of skinny bugga! in sooty dancer.  i have two skeins of yellow ella rae, and what white/cream yarn i have is either patons (leftover from making sock monkeys) or plymouth (from the afghan kit i won a couple years ago).  i have a lone skein of KP bare, which i was going to dye with kool-aid.  maybe someday i'll actually dye that skein of yarn.

if you look at my fingering weights, i have a lot of purples, blues and greens (or variegated all of the above).  my shawls are all cool shades of purple or green, with the exception of my hot tomato.  i guess my tastes run to the cool colors.  i wear a lot of black and dark colors - i'm a shrinking daisy i suppose!

i guess it's safe to say i favor the cool shades of the color wheel.

  2. I tend to sort my stash by type because I generally have everything planned but by color is kind of genius as well. Particularly as I buy more and more sock yarn :P

  4. At least your stash looks mindfully organized :-P Mine is sorted into "yarn in this box and more yarn in another box". Cool colors are so pretty and work so very well in projects year round depending on the shade! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I like the cool colors mostly too, but it's always nice to have a bit of variation. I can tell that you agree :) Your reds are beautiful too!

  8. Wow! You are SO organized! I need to take a tip from you. That's a great way to separate your yarn.
